Since its establishment, the Anne Frank Fonds has supported historical research and welcomes new assessments based on new corroborated facts. Such assessments must be centred on scientific findings. The Anne Frank Fonds and the families it represents explicitly do not engage in theories and speculation.

The Anne Frank Fonds was asked in advance by the team working on the book to participate in the project. The background to the project was discussed in a meeting and in written correspondence. In the process, it emerged that this was not a classic scientific project, however it was a project that specialists were participating in. The Board of Trustees of the Anne Frank Fonds decided early on not to participate in the project and to concentrate on the ongoing scientific analysis of its own archives in the Frank Family Center in Frankfurt.

The Anne Frank Fonds Basel was founded in 1963. One if its mandates is to publish the Diaries of Anne Frank.
