ANNE FRANK-Fonds: 2001 annual report

ANNE FRANK-Fonds: 2001 annual reportRenovation of Otto Frank House in Birsfelden complete. All new editions of diary now to contain five newly discovered pages. Professor Stella Reiter-Theil appointed to ethics professorship in Basel financed by the AFF. One of the two facsimile copies originally made of diary now being kept at domicile of Fonds in Basel.

The ANNE-FRANK-Fonds (AFF) has had the house in Birsfelden, where Otto and Fritzi Frank lived for years, extensively renovated. In memory of ANNE FRANK’s father and the founder of the Fonds, it will now be called the “Otto Frank House”.

Five pages of the diary were missing for years. They reappeared some time ago. The inspection of the pages clearly confirmed their authenticity and their text will now be included in all new editions of the diary.

Work on the two complete facsimile copies of ANNE’s diaries is progressing steadily. The first book – the well-known autograph album (“The Diary of Anne Frank”) – is finished and work on the other notebooks and sheets of paper is set for completion by the end of 2002. The Anne Frank-Stichting in Amsterdam and the AFF in Basel would thus like to secure this irreplaceable and moving document from the period of the Second World War. The AFF has made considerable contributions to the costs.

Regular contact with the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam means that collaboration has intensified. A lease regulates the display in Amsterdam of items owned by the AFF.

Professor Stella Reiter-Theil has been appointed to the ethics professorship at the University of Basel, which was initiated and is financed by the AFF. In this way, the AFF would like to make a contribution to the training and further education of young students in ethical issues.

Finances

It was decided to renovate totally the house in Birsfelden. This occurred in the year under review and was completed with a total expenditure of about CHF 900,000.00. The three flats have in the meantime been rented out.

The balance sheet total decreased by 8.9%. Revenue from author’s rights declined dramatically (by 43%). The accounts, which are kept externally, and the annual statement of accounts are audited by Deloitte & Touche.
