ANNE FRANK Foundation: Annual Report 2002

The ANNE FRANK -Fonds  (AFF) has been actively involved with the Washington Holocaust Museum exhibition devoted to ANNE FRANK's literary works. The ongoing project on two complete facsimile sets of all ANNE FRANK's works was finally completed in Amsterdam at the end of 2002. The recently published  biography of Otto Frank by Carol Ann Lee has generated considerable  discussion, particularly in Holland. A North Korean version of the Diary has been published.

The Holocaust Museum in Washington is celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2003 and came to the AFF with a request  to exhibit certain works of ANNE FRANK in their original versions. The AFF responded positively to this request after careful deliberation and consultation with its partner organisations. Also included in the exhibition will be the first public viewing of the Diary facsimile.

The work on the two  facsimile sets of ANNE FRANK's  entire works was completed at the end of 2002. The end of January 2003 saw the official handover by the Amsterdam ANNE FRANK Stichting to the AFF in Basel.

Regular contact between the AFF and the Stichting in Amsterdam has ensured a high level of coordination and cooperation on all matters of mutual interest.

General
One of the AFF's main activities is directed towards assessing and checking the numerous and widely ranging requests for financial support. Projects which receive support are subsequently followed up. Other important activities are ensuring that the copyrights held by the AFF on all  works of Otto and Anne Frank are fully respected as well dissemination of ANNE FRANK's message. In view of  Anne's forthcoming 75th birthday in 2004, the use of quotations from the Diary for a Requiem has been approved by the AFF's  Board. All enquiries concerning stage rights were strictly refused by the Board because of existing agreements.

Literary
It was with great pleasure that the AFF  supported plans to publish a North Korean edition of the Diary. It is a matter of considerable regret that there is still no Arabic edition of the Diary. The biography of Otto Frank by Carol Ann Lee, published first in Dutch and subsequently in English in 2002, generated heated discussions about Otto both as a person and a businessman. In particular the question of the betrayal added to the controversy. A volume on ANNE FRANK has appeared in the German rororo series of monographs.

Finances
Assets were considerably reduced by the situation on the world's financial markets, high level of awards and contributions to finance the work on the  Diary facsimiles. Income from royalties remained at around the same level as the previous year. Accounting for the AFF is carried out externally and the year-end figures  audited by Deloitte & Touche Experta SA.

Awards
After careful consideration by the AFF's Board grants totalling 1,04 million Swiss Francs were awarded to numerous organisations at home and abroad Amongst the main beneficiaries are the following organisations:
