World premiere

For the first time ever, the Graphic Diary of Anne Frank is to be published in September 2017. The Diary of Anne Frank, the world-renowned contemporary document, is part of the canon of Holocaust literature. Seventy years after its first publication, the original diary will be complemented by a graphic version. This adaptation, by screenwriter and film-maker Ari Folman and illustrator David Polonsky, demonstrates the literary dimension and brilliance of the young author Anne Frank. It visualises Anne Frank’s contemporary historical document by conveying the historical and social context in which the Diary was written. Based on the Definitive Edition, the Graphic Diary renders tangible the fate of the eight inhabitants of the annexe during their 743 days in hiding. The artists’ impressive capacity to understand and analyse the original text results in an illustrated narrative revealing the inner life of this contemporary document. The Graphic Diary will initially be released in more than 40 countries worldwide.

With the Graphic Diary, the Anne Frank Fonds has complemented both the definitive readers’ edition and the Collected Works edition.
